Tracking construction delay events

The procedure of submitting a notice for a delay event is normally well described in a Contract. FIDIC Contracts for example prescribes that a delay event notice must be submitted within 28days of the Contractor becoming aware of that event or its impact. The Contractor must furthermore continue to submit particulars or further updates every 28days. It usually also prescribed that it must be addressed to the Engineer and that a copy must be issued to the Employer (and Project Manager is some instances) for a notice to be considered valid.

A valid notice shall be in writing on a company letterhead addressed to the Engineer with a copy to the Employer. The letter must clearly state that it is a Notice of Delay / Potential delay and it should also identify under which clauses of the Contract the notice is made against. The notice must also describe the event and identify the required action if any to be taken by the Engineer. A very good template complying with all these requirements is available at www.online-templatestore.com/e-templates2.html.

Tracking and keeping your notices valid, that is submitted every 28days can become quite a tricky operation if many events at various times are registered. By entering your events, letter reference and dates into this template you can not only track your notices and references, but will also be red flagged when the next notice should be submitted. Simply enter your notice prescription period and the spreadsheet will calculate when the next submission must be made and will also automatically colour the current status.

The schedule will list the number of events and description of each event raised, letter reference and the number of submissions made. The document compiles the information is a very neat and compact report that can also be submitted as part of the monthly progress report.

Face it the last thing you want to happen is for your notified delay to be time barred or rejected. Get peace of mind by monitoring events using this claim tracking schedule. The claim tracking schedule template identified in this article is available at the following Construction website.
